This is a blog by Chris Cane, The UV Guy. The plan is to collect and provide as much current information as I can to provide you, the reader with information on the treatment of Vitiligo with UVB Narrow Band. UVB Narrowband is a proven technology to help re-pigment patients with Vitiligo. I will be discussing a little about PUVA which is a proven but fading technology in the treatment of Vitiligo.

I have to admit that back in 1999 when I met Randy Salter, the founder of Vitiligo Support International, I certainly did not expect to become an expert, if I might use that term in the use of UVB Narrow Band in the treatment of Vitiligo. Randy had started a USENET group (How many of you remember the USENET?). The history of VSI can be found at http://www.vitiligosupport.org/organization/our_history.cfm. The newsgroup was called alt.support.skin-diseases.vitiligo and the postings that Randy and I made can still be found there at Google Groups if one cares to see my goofs back in the day!

Over the ensuing years, Cheryl and I worked on growing www.amjo.net and the www.HomePhotoTherapy.com (originally www.uv-light.com) became our bread and butter website and our knowledge of Vitiligo grew as we attended conferences, I gave presentations and folks started opening up to us about their challenges and their successes and failures treating Vitiligo. It became very evident that the use of PUVA and/or UVB Narrow Band were by far the most effective treatments for Vitiligo.

I now welcome your phone calls and emails and enjoy learning more about the treatment of Vitilgo.

We attended conferences in Florida with the AVRF and VSI and I think it was 2001 that we attended a conference here in Cincinnati with the NVFI (National Vitiligo Foundation)

I have presented papers at various conferences including those by the AVRF (American Vitiligo Research Foundation), The NVF (National Vitiligo Foundation) and VSI (Vitiligo Support International).
